Aaron Siskind
Aaron Siskind (1903-1991) began his photographic career documenting social conditions in the underprivileged areas of New York, and then made a transition toward a form of photographic abstract expressionism, finding poetry and formal beauty amid such objects as pavement, rocks, weathered wood, peeling paint, and broken windows.
