Edward Steichen

Edward Steichen (1879-1973) was one of the most influential American photographers in the first half of the century, and did a great deal to achieve a respected place for the medium in the art world. His early work was in the pictorialist and symbolist mode, but he then adopted a more modernist style, and later he became highly famous for his portrait and fashion photography.
