Erwin Blumenfeld

Erwin Blumenfeld (1897-1969) grew up in Berlin, then moved to Holland at the end of the first world war, where he began learning photography on his own. The camera became for him the ideal vehicle for his fascination with the female form, and he engaged in endless experimentation with the the techniques of the medium, producing innovative and original images. After moving to France in the 1930s and later to the US, he attained resounding success as a fashion photographer, which provided him with the freedom to continue his stylistic experiments in his art photography.
