Ruth Bernhard
Ruth Bernhard (1905-2006) was born in Berlin but moved to New York in 1927, finally settling in San Francisco where she lived and worked for five decades. She was widely admired for her collection of work on the female nude, embodying classical, sculptural ideals of beauty. Ansel Adams called her "the greatest photographer of the nude" and she was also associated with Edward Weston and other renowned photographers.
